For one full week now Bishop Zurek has had us…
“don’t think twice, it’s all right”!

Bishop Zurek took an extra week to submit to God’s expectation with the synod and therefore put off the people that longs to see His face. This delay could have pleased the Lord had His Excellency used the time as a period of conversion to reflect on the fundamental question of the synodal process, however instead of showing the fruit of repentance, he showed obstinance:

- The opening Mass of, nor any mention of the Synod for the Diocese has been put on the calendar.
- Additional stories on activities in the Diocese of Amarillo were posted on the website, but nothing about the Synod has appeared.
- Bishop Zurek’s expectations for a Red, Te Deum and Respect Life Masses were broadcasted on radio and social media, but God’s expectation and Pope Francis’s invitation for the Synod were ignored.

The fact that the Synod Opening was put on the Bishop’s Schedule is an acknowledgement that Bishop Zurek is not ignorant that the difference established by election does not imply exclusive preference but service and witnessing of a universal breadth; but the little cultivation and fertilizing he has put into this Synod thus far is leaving the soil exhausted in this portion of God’s orchard called the Diocese of Amarillo.

The Fundamental Question
26. The fundamental question that guides this consultation of the People of God, as mentioned at the beginning, is the following:
A synodal Church, in announcing the Gospel, “journeys together:” How is this “journeying together” happening today in your particular Church? What steps does the Spirit invite us to take in order to grow in our “journeying together”?
In order to respond, you are invited to:
a) ask yourselves what experiences in your particular Church the fundamental question calls to mind;
b) reread these experiences in greater depth: What joys did they provoke? What difficulties and obstacles have they encountered? What wounds have they brought to light? What insights have they elicited?
c) gather the fruits to share: Where, in these experiences, does the voice of the Spirit resound? What is he asking of us? What are the points to be confirmed, the prospects for change, the steps to be taken? Where do we register a consensus? What paths are opening up for our particular Church?
