It’s sad to say, but I tend to be a Sadducee. It grew out of the absolute good of denying abortion, and even though I would not in so many words, “deny that there is a resurrection“; my following Litany of Denial could keep me from being, “deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead,”!
Litany of Denial
That capital punishment is not as much as an absolute evil as abortion
Jesus, I deny You
That Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si’ doesn’t protect the unborn like St. Pope Paul VI’s Humanae Vitae does

That limiting 2nd Amendment rights wouldn’t prevent murder while limiting Roe v. Wade rights would

That welcoming people into the United States by way of the womb, but not by way of the borders is dignified

That banning mask and vaccine mandates is a moral absolute for the “common good” like banning abortion is

That child care and universal pre-k, Medicare expansion, extended child tax credits, paid family and medical leave, and affordable housing are socialistic, not pro-life

That it’s not hypocrisy for me to recite this litany while wanting to deny Holy Communion to President Biden

I offer this litany because it constitutes a very special and arresting feature of the situation today. I mean this, that there were always radical revolutionists; but now there are conservative revolutionists also. The modern Conservative no longer conserves. He is avowedly an innovator. Thus all the current defenses of the Republican party which describe it as a bulwark against the mob, are intellectually done for; the bottom has fallen out of them; because on five or six of the most turbulent topics of the day, the Republican party is a mob itself; and exceedingly likely to behave like one.
