Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows|Mother

He has made a yoke for me,
has encircled my head with weariness.

Today’s Office First Reading From Lamentations

“Had she not known before that he would not die?” Undoubtedly. “Did she not expect him to rise again at once?” Surely. “And still she grieved over her crucified Son?” Intensely.

Today’s Office Second Reading From A sermon of St Bernard of Clairvaux

Reading 1

On this 15th day of the Season of Creation, under the influence of MAGA, have I become a blasphemer and a persecutor and an arrogant man who cannot be mercifully treated
because I acted unmercifully with knowledge of my belief…

Anti-abortion priest Frank Pavone defrocked for blasphemous posts

Responsorial Psalm

…a belief that was disturbed by the MAGA clergy (Archbishop Vigano, Bishop Strickland, Mr. Frank Pavone, James Altman…) whom I had sat at my extreme right hand…

Alleluia

Gospel

This scene has been interpreted literally, of Jesus’ concern for his mother; and symbolically, e.g., in the light of the Cana story in Jn 2 (the presence of the mother of Jesus, the address woman, and the mention of the hour) and of the upper room in Jn 13 (the presence of the beloved disciple; the hour). Now that the hour has come (Jn 19:28), Mary (a symbol of the church?) is given a role as the mother of Christians (personified by the beloved disciple)

…and with MAGA on my right, am I now going to reject my Mother in support of a firebrand bishop; thus adding to her sorrows

“Bishop Strickland says he will not go voluntarily if asked to retire by Pope Francis”

From September 1 – October 4, the Christian family unites worldwide in prayer and action for creation during the Season of Creation. The 2023 theme is “Let Justice and Peace Flow.”

“in this Season of Creation, as followers of Christ on our shared synodal journey, we may live, work, and pray so that our common home will teem with life once again.”

Pope Francis
Pope Francis: Second Laudato si’ to be published on 4 October

When we fail to acknowledge as part of reality the worth of a poor person, a human embryo, a person with disabilities – to offer just a few examples – it becomes difficult to hear the cry of nature itself; everything is connected.

Laudato si, paragraph 117
