Friday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time/ First Friday/ St. Elizabeth of Portugal

The rest of the Church celebrated St. Elizabeth of Portugal on July 4th, but the bishops of the United States moved her memorial to today so that we could solemnize Independence Day.
There was nothing on the Bishop’s Schedule for Independence Day except for the Diocesan Pastoral Center being closed. Did he judge himself righteous with no need to solemnize the holiday by leading his parish in a Eucharistic celebration that would “satiate (our) hunger”

Is it because a group of sinners has followed one of St. Mary’s Cathedral’s priests who has actually taken up the challenge of doing what the Lord who has called and consecrated him asks: “Listen to the voice of my Spirit and advance in the direction that he points out to you.“; that led to there being three times more people at the regularly scheduled Friday, 7am Mass this morning than there were at the “special” Independence Day Mass yesterday❓

Why was it that Father Tony was not present on Independence Day to, “quench your thirst”❓Was he feeling righteous and didn’t feel the need to tell us that he was taking a vacation, “North to Alaska”, or encourage us to go to the “special” Independence Day Mass even though he would not be there❓ Nevertheless the reason, if you want to “quench your thirst” with a secular drink over this holiday weekend, he does has an aluminum can koozey he can sell you.

…all my
brother priests have given their lives for the service of the Gospel and the
mission of Christ as manifested through their ministry in the Church. They
are not seeking wealth or fame and certainly not power or control. They
became priests to serve you and help you to grow spiritually. They are here to
satiate your hunger and to quench your thirst.

from Bishop Zurek’s Letter to St. Mary’s Cathedral, “A Reflection on Christian Life”

If I’m, “In search of the word of the LORD“, shouldn’t my parish be a logical place to go…

…accordingly, if, “One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God“, what message does it send to me if my parish priest does not take advantage of every opportunity, like Independence Day, to, “serve you and help you to grow spiritually“…

…or proclaim, “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest, says the Lord
“, as Father Avitus does with the 1st Friday of each month;…

…consequently, couldn’t the answer to the question that Father Avitus asked this morning at Mass, “Do you see yourself as righteous, or as a sinner❓”, be the reason for: the deterioration of both nature and culture “; why so few showed up for a “special” Independence Day Mass; and why so many “got up and followed” Father Avitus to a ordinary First Friday Mass this morning❓
