- The maintaining of a letter on the diocesan website rebuking “a few” who reported abuse at St. Mary’s Cathedral;
- The aborting of daily Masses at St. Mary’s Cathedral for the sake of priests’ health and spirituality;
- the building of another bishop’s residence, effectively put our next bishop “in his place” before he even arrives ❓

“Finally, it should not be forgotten that processes of consultation, communal discernment and synodal decision-making require those who take part in them to have effective access to all relevant information so that they can formulate their own reasoned opinion. The authority initiating the process is responsible for ensuring that this happens.” Accordingly, at this time, are not some of the resources needed to form my own reasoned opinion still unavailable, making it difficult for me to truly “…work out your salvation with fear and trembling.‘”❓
“Sound synodal decision-making processes require an appropriate level of transparency.” However, when such transparency is lacking, as it currently is in the Diocese of Amarillo, can I not still have hope that God will provide the resources I need, for “The Lord is my light and my salvation.“❓

“Likewise, it is important to recognize the delicacy of the task and the special responsibility borne by those who express their opinion in a consultation.” Therefore, if one uses the resources available to speak out on the “serious mistake” memorial, the letter, aborted Eucharists, and the house Bishop Zurek built, should one not pray for “the grace of an inclusive ministry of blessing and fellowship” so that “If you are insulted for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of God rests upon you.“❓

Finally, even if I have not succeeded in encouraging the Diocese of Amarillo to adopt synodal decision-making processes that could safeguard resources for present and future generations against “sins against synodality“—which now put our new bishop in a position where he must “Just Say NO❣️” to being “put in his place”—does that mean I should put down my Cross and allow Bishop Zurek to exclaim,…
“‘This one began to build but did not have the resources to finish.’ ” ❓
We have not yet managed to adopt a circular model of production capable of preserving resources for present and future generations, while limiting as much as possible the use of non-renewable resources, moderating their consumption, maximizing their efficient use, reusing and recycling them.
