Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

How can I, on this Sunday of the Word of God, embrace the challenge to fulfill Scripture in my hearing, not just through the daily practice of Lectio Divina but also by allowing it to transform my lifestyle, my consumption habits, and even my relationship with the structures of power that shape our world, so that I may truly live the words, “#Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing”❓

Lectio Divina on the Word of God

Reading I

Today, I am reminded that “rejoicing in the LORD must be your strength!” This truth guides me as I approach the Word of God in Lectio Divina, seeking its fulfillment in my hearing. When I rejoice in the Lord, I find strength not only to listen but also to respond. Yet, I ask myself, how often do I allow today’s distractions to drown out the joy that comes from encountering God’s Word❓

Responsorial Psalm

Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life, and today they call me to deeper conversion. As I sit with Scripture, I reflect on how it speaks to my heart in this moment. Today, I am called not to be a passive listener but an active participant in the Spirit-filled life. Does my practice of prayer and contemplation shape me to be more aligned with the Word I hear, or am I just going through the motions❓

Reading 2

“For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body,” and today I am reminded of the interconnectedness of the Church and creation. My responsibility to care for the Earth is not separate from my spiritual life. The Word I hear today asks me to consider whether my actions toward the environment and my neighbors reflect my belonging to Christ’s body. Am I truly living in a way that builds unity and protects the vulnerable❓

Alleluia

Alleluia, alleluia. The Lord sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor and to proclaim liberty to captives. Today, I ponder what it means to embody this mission in my daily life. I am challenged to move beyond personal reflection and engage with the world’s needs. Am I willing to make the profound changes in lifestyle and consumption that the Gospel calls for, or do I shy away from discomfort in favor of convenience❓ Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel

Since many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the events
that have been fulfilled among us,
just as those who were eyewitnesses from the beginning
and ministers of the word have handed them down to us,
I too have decided,
after investigating everything accurately anew,
to write it down in an orderly sequence for you,
most excellent Theophilus,
so that you may realize the certainty of the teachings
you have received.

Outside Today

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit,
and news of him spread throughout the whole region.
He taught in their synagogues and was praised by all.

“The joys and hopes and the sorrows and anxieties of people today, especially of
those who are poor and afflicted” (GS 1) have been once again the joys and sorrows of all of
us, Christ’s disciples.

He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up,
and went according to his custom
into the synagogue on the sabbath day.
He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah.
He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.

2:53
today the respect life mass is coming up
5:16
today it’s super important to support

Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down,
and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.
He said to them,
Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (1963) – Trailer – Vittorio De Sica

Today, the Scripture I hear is not distant history but a living Word meant to transform me. Each moment I encounter God’s Word, I have the opportunity to let it take root and bear fruit in my life. Am I ready to let go of excuses and embrace the call to transformation, so I can truly say,…

“‘Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.‘”❓

Every effort to protect and improve our world entails profound changes in “lifestyles, models of production and consumption, and the established structures of power which today govern societies”.[7]
