Memorial of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, Virgin

LECTIO — The Word Speaks

The Pharisees want a sign, a timetable, an unveiling.
Jesus gives them something harder:
the Kingdom is already present—unannounced, unobserved, hidden in plain sight.

MEDITATIO — The Word Resonates

The early morning stillness was broken again by the deep-throated warning barks of my livestock guardian dogs. Coyotes prowled the perimeter fence, invisible in the night but unmistakably close.

The dogs sensed what I could not see.
They were awake to what was already present.
Their vigilance was not fear but presence
an instinctive awareness of what moves in the dark and what must be defended.

“Lights” plays like a commentary on today’s Gospel—
the Kingdom isn’t announced with spotlights or signs.
It glows quietly in the dark,
like Ellie Goulding sings:
‘You show the lights that stop me turn to stone…’
Even in the early-morning shadows,
Christ’s light is already here—
steady, unseen, guiding.

“Anyone in need—even an enemy—deserves our assistance.”

— Dilexi te §25

This is the way of Mother Cabrini
who crossed oceans not because she sought a sign,
but because she recognized the Kingdom already alive
in the immigrant poor she loved and served.

ORATIO — Prayer Rises

“Love, overflowing with small gestures of mutual care,
is also civic and political.”

— Laudato Si’ §231

Lord, make me attentive to Your Kingdom already among us—
in the faces I pass,
in the needs I overlook,
in the quiet places of fear where You are already present.

Give me Cabrini’s courage
to serve without waiting for perfect conditions,
to love without requiring acknowledgement,
to protect without hesitation.

Awaken me as my dogs awaken me—
to what prowls,
to what threatens,
to what You call me to guard with love.

CONTEMPLATIO — Resting in the Word

The night grows quiet again.
The coyotes retreat.
My dogs settle back into the straw.

No one would have noticed—
but the Kingdom was there:
in fidelity, in vigilance, in the unseen work of love.

So I rest in this truth:
the Kingdom of God is already among us—
not spectacular, but steadfast.
Not announced, but alive.

ACTIO — I Live It
Like Frances Xavier Cabrini, the heroine steps into danger not for spectacle but for love. She discovers that the real transformation happens not “out there,” but within.

Today I will choose to bring the Kingdom into the ordinary.
I will answer one small call for help — even if it comes from someone difficult, inconvenient, or unexpected.
And when fear or noise rises around me, like the coyotes in the dark, I will stay rooted in Christ’s nearness, trusting that His Kingdom is already here, already moving, already breaking into my day through simple acts of courage and mercy.
