There is an urgent need to develop policies so that, in the next few years, the emission of carbon dioxide and other highly polluting gases can be drastically reduced, for example, substituting for fossil fuels and developing sources of renewable energy.
Laudato si, paragraph 26
Come on Pope Francis, “apart from a few obvious signs of pollution and deterioration, things don’t look that serious;” so couldn’t our common home “continue as it is for some time”?
from Laudato si, paragraph 59
Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time
Reading 1
I know their works and their thoughts…
I will set a sign among them…
to the distant coastlands
that have never heard of my fame, or seen my glory;
and they shall proclaim my glory among the nations.
They shall bring all your brothers and sisters from all the nations
as an offering to the LORD…
to the house of the LORD in clean vessels.
Responsorial Psalm
R. Go out to all the world and tell the Good News because this is no time for weak responses!
Praise the LORD, all you nations; Never have we so hurt and mistreated our common home as we have in the last two hundred years; it is now time to glorify him, all you peoples!
R. Go out to all the world and tell the Good News because this is no time for weak responses!
For steadfast is his kindness toward us; even though we contrive to feed (our) self-destructive vices: trying not to see them, trying not to acknowledge them, delaying the important decisions and pretending that nothing will happen; and (yet) the fidelity of the LORD endures forever.
R. Go out to all the world and tell the Good News because this is no time for weak responses!
Reading 2
You have forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as children:
“… do not disdain the discipline of the Lord
or lose heart when reproved by him;
for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines;…”
Endure your trials as “discipline”;…
At the time,
all discipline seems a cause not for joy but for pain,
yet later it brings the peaceful fruit of righteousness
to those who are trained by it.
So strengthen your drooping hands and your weak knees.
Make straight paths for your feet,
that what is lame may not be disjointed but healed.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
I am the way, the truth and the life, says the Lord; and isn’t it true Bishop Zurek, that the Amarillo Diocese made significant progress under Bishop Yanta in respecting life in a human embryo (an unpopular truth in his day); but haven’t you grown popularly entrenched at the barred doors of a Planned Parenthood clinic at 15th and Taylor (which Yanta closed) instead of advancing us to the Father…through the unpopular respect life narrow gate proclaimed by the Holy Father today in regard to climate change?
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel
And you will say,
‘We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.’
Then he will say to you,
‘I do not know where you are from.
Depart from me, all you evildoers!’
Lk 13: 26-27
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and a-carryin’ signs
Mostly say, “Hooray for our side”
