Belated Memorial of Saint Bonaventure, Bishop and Doctor of the Church

Is it God’s will that I upset  the peace at St. Mary’s Cathedral with my rant over this morning’s daily Mass being canceled because of my mom’s funeral ❓

Father Tony wants me to learn the Canon Law of priests only celebrating one Mass a day, but from what I’ve learned about Christ, denying the Eucharist to Daily Mass attendees simply because there is a funeral on the same day doesn’t sound like something Christ would do.

In the week of, “The First National Eucharistic Congress in 83 Years“, the Bells of St. Mary’s rang out. Ten or so of us gathered in the Divine Mercy Chapel. The altar was not prepared. There was no priest. The lay presider apologized to those those gathered about the confusion, but if anyone present came expecting “Eucharist”, they should know that there was not going to be any because of my mom’s funeral.

Bishop Zurek tells me I’m restless and disrupting the peace at St. Mary’s by ranting about the fact he has Daily Mass Canceled if there is a funeral Mass on the same day because he wants his priest celebrating only one Mass a day during the week. Instead of reaping the good fruits of Communal Discernment that come from structures of communion such as the daily communicants and the parish council, he has Father Tony quote me Canon Law.

I now speak to all the rest of you, the parishioners of St. Mary’s
Cathedral Parish. You are the faithful and loyal disciples that the Lord Jesus
desires. I am so sorry that you have to experience this awful bashing against
other members of the Body of Christ manifested here. I cannot thank you
enough! I am proud of you; your Rector, your Associate Rector, all my
brother priests are very proud of you…

…Finally please pray for all who are restless: that they may find peace
and tranquility.

From a letter from Bishop Patrick J. Zurek to the Faith Community at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Amarillo.

However, there is an inseparable bond between concern for nature, justice for the poor, commitment to society, and interior peace, and although Bishop Zurek and Father Tony may think that I will only find peace when I stop “bashing” St. Mary’s Cathedral over having people and sacraments canceled, are they not overlooking that I’ve already found the “peace and tranquility” they prayed I would find by using the “sword” that Jesus has brought to me
