I was “sick” due to my sin and heeded Sr. Maria Elena Ferrer’s call, “Let’s Go To Mass!“; however, when I got to St. Mary’s Cathedral I discovered that Bishop Zurek had determined that he and his priests’ health and spirituality were more in “need” of some time off from the “Physician“, and therefore had aborted daily Masses this week; consequently, how can I, “enjoy being a community, ask for forgiveness, listen, learn, share the peace of Christ, give of our wealth and receive the Eucharist!“, when Bishop Zurek doesn’t have that same “need“❓

“As an expression of the Spirit’s freedom in bestowing gifts and as a response to the needs of individual communities, there is in the Church a variety of ministries that can be exercised by any baptized man or woman. These take the form of a regular service offered to and recognized by the community and those who guide it. ‘”; nonetheless, presiding at the celebration of the Eucharist is not one of these ministries, and since, “Mass is the celebration of the Sacrament of the Eucharist“, what does a sinner like me, who desires to, “go to Mass daily!”, do when my priests don’t seem to “need” to eat with me; accordingly, shouldn’t Bishop Zurek, with his desire to have more United Catholics to Appeal to, at least consider that, “This conversion of one tax collector gave many men, those from his own profession and other sinners, an example of repentance and pardon.“❓

“They can be called baptismal ministries to indicate their common root (baptism) and to distinguish them from ordained ministries rooted in the sacrament of Order. There are, for example, men and women who exercise the ministry of coordinating a small church community, the ministry of leading moments of prayer (at funerals or otherwise), the extraordinary ministry of communion, or other services not necessarily liturgical., such as Sr. Elena teaching a course on the Liturgy ; indeed, couldn’t my writing a daily blog be a baptismal ministry if it helps with the “need” of , “bearing with one another through love,“❓

“The Latin and Eastern canonical norms already provide that, in some cases, lay faithful, men or women, may also be extraordinary ministers of baptism. According to the Latin norms, the bishop may delegate to lay faithful, men or women, to assist at weddings.“; “Thus, all of us, sons and daughters of God, in eating and drinking of the Eucharist celebrate who we really are—a community of brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus“, and even if Bishop Zurek has no “need” to eat and drink with them at his Cathedral parish, can we not say that, “Their message goes out through all the earth“❓

“It is useful to continue reflecting on how to entrust these ministries to the laity in a more stable form. This reflection should be accompanied by further consideration of how we can promote more forms of lay ministry, including outside the liturgical sphere.“, such as Sr. Elena did at the Diocesan Catechetical Event on September 7, which Bishop Zurek felt no “need” to attend, even while Pope Francis, at a meeting with Indonesian clergy, honored catechists, calling them the true “strength of the Church” and its frontline leaders, carrying the faith forward; hence, for bishops like Pope Francis can we not say, “We praise you, O God, we acclaim you as Lord; the glorious company of Apostles praise you.“❓
