Could it be that Bishop Zurek’s insistence on continuing to use the “COVID Protocols” of aborting Eucharistic celebrations and confessions for the sake of the Church’s health and spirituality has “the 1,973 children” and “1,053 volunteers” from the Diocese of Amarillo “trying to see” Jesus somewhere other than their Catholic parish❓

“It seems appropriate to create a recognized and properly instituted ministry of listening and accompaniment, which would make this characteristic feature of a synodal Church an enduring and tangible reality. An ‘open door’ of the community is needed, allowing people to enter without feeling threatened or judged“; subsequently, I thank Deacon Blaine Westlake for trying to open doors for those “feeling threatened or judged’ by using “the Spirit to a truly synodal mentality” to derive questions by comparing this year’s diocesan Safe Environment cumulative data to those of “the high year of 2018“, which was just prior to the widespread church shutdowns caused by COVID and has led to fewer Americans going to church; however, even though many state legislators over the past few years have passed laws to protect houses of worship from state-mandated church closures in the event of a public health emergency”, has not Bishop Zurek used Canon Law to seemingly negate those protections by having his priest regularly abort Eucharistic celebrations and confessions for the sake of their health and spirituality; indeed, is not aborting Eucharistic celebrations and confessions for the sake of health and spirituality going against what a good friend of” Bishop Zurek’s, “St. Augustine of Hippo, also a brother bishop”, wrote about in today’s Office of the Readings, “There you will find the delight of your heart: nothing poisonous, nothing strange – the richest of pastures. Simply come in good health, and feed in good health“❓
“The forms of exercising this ministry will need to adapt to local circumstances according to the diversity of experiences, structures, social contexts and available resources. This opens up a space for discernment to take place at the local level, with the involvement of national or continental Episcopal Conferences; consequently, is Bishop Zurek even trying to adapt Canon Law to local circumstances or for the sake of a priests’ health and spirituality when he aborts a Eucharistic Celebration by ruling that Canon 905.2 would not consider a funeral as just cause for a priest to celebrate two daily Masses when there is a priest shortage; indeed, isn’t that basically stating that Canon Law and, “All things are vanity!“❓
“However, the presence of a specific ministry does not mean reserving the commitment to listening to these ministers alone. On the contrary, it has a prophetic character. On the one hand, it emphasizes that listening and accompaniment are an ordinary dimension of the life of a synodal Church, which in different ways engages all the baptized and in which all communities are invited to grow; on the other hand, it reminds us that listening and accompaniment is an ecclesial service, not a personal initiative, the value of which is thus recognized. “; accordingly, was it an “ecclesial service, not a personal initiative”, when Bishop Zurek aborted confessions multiple times this year at his Cathedral so that: a security system that could protect his priests health and spirituality was installed; or so everyone in the parish, for their health and spirituality, could join the priests at baseball games and a meatloaf dinner; nonetheless, even if Bishop Zurek was not even trying to listen to and accompany all the baptized with these decisions, do we not believe that, “In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge“❓

“This awareness” of the difference between an ecclesial service and a personal initiative “is a mature fruit of the synodal process“; subsequently, is it showing mature fruit when Bishop Zurek aborts Eucharistic celebrations and confessions so that all the priests at St. Mary’s Cathedral could get away from their trying circumstances at the same time last week for the sake of their health and spirituality; nevertheless, is it not a good thing that I don’t go through Bishop Zurek to get to God since I’ve been told, “I am the way and the truth and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father except through me“❓
