How does the Memorial of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton challenge me to reflect on Jesus’ question, “What are you #looking for❓” in light of “On Care for Our Common Home’s” call for a distinctive way of looking at the world—through sustainable living, thoughtful policies, and a spirituality that resists the technocratic paradigm—while considering the joy of my grandchildren playing on our front lawn and the insights shared in CAPN: “The WTC: The Podcast”, Episode 001 – Relics & Such❓
Gospel
John was standing with two of his disciples,
and as he watched Jesus walk by, he said,
“Behold, the Lamb of God.”
The two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus.
Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them,
“What are you looking for❓”
They said to him, “Rabbi” (which translated means Teacher),
“where are you staying❓”
He said to them, “Come, and you will see.”
So they went and saw where he was staying,
and they stayed with him that day.
It was about four in the afternoon.
Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter,
was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus.
He first found his own brother Simon and told him,
“We have found the Messiah,” which is translated Christ.
Then he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said,
“You are Simon the son of John;
you will be called Cephas,” which is translated Peter.
Reflection
In celebrating the Memorial of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, I find myself looking at her life as a model of faith and resilience. She sought God’s will in all things, raising her family with deep devotion and establishing schools that reflected her commitment to education and service. Her journey reminds me to pause and consider whether I am looking for fleeting success or lasting spiritual growth. Am I, like her, looking to dedicate my efforts to something greater than myself❓
The question Jesus posed, “What are you looking for❓” calls me to examine my relationship with creation as well. On Care for Our Common Home challenges me to cultivate a distinctive way of looking at the world—not as a resource to exploit but as a gift to treasure. Am I looking beyond the immediate gratification of the technocratic paradigm and instead fostering habits and attitudes that align with the Gospel’s call to stewardship❓
As I watch my grandchildren playing on our front lawn, I reflect on how their laughter and innocence inspire hope for the future. Am I looking to leave them a world that reflects God’s beauty and order, or am I caught in patterns of consumption that undermine the very creation they will inherit❓ Their joy reminds me that my choices today will shape the world they grow up in.

Listening to CAPN: “The WTC: The Podcast,” Episode 001 – Relics & Such, I am encouraged to explore the ways the Church treasures its traditions and symbols. This unique way of looking at relics as both spiritual and historical ties to a broader appreciation of what has been handed down through generations. Am I looking at these treasures with reverence and allowing them to guide my faith journey in meaningful ways❓
As I strive to live a life of deeper faith and intentional care for creation, I am left with the same question Jesus asked the disciples:
There needs to be a distinctive way of looking at things, a way of thinking, policies, an educational programme, a lifestyle and a spirituality which together generate resistance to the assault of the technocratic paradigm.
