Is it not partly because Bishop Zurek’s reserved space is almost always empty, even on this Saturday morning when all his Catechists are gathering at his Cathedral to learn, “more about the celebration of the Sacrament of the Eucharist.“; indeed, Pope Francis traveled halfway around the world to Indonesia this week, and when the bishops, priests, deacons, consecrated persons, seminarians and catechists were gathered around him, the first words out of the Holy Father’s mouth were,
“With you standing here in front of everyone, I would like to say something.
MEETING WITH BISHOPS, PRIESTS, DEACONS, CONSECRATED PERSONS,
The catechists carry the Church forward. They are the ones who move forward first, followed by the nuns, then the priests and the bishop. But, the catechists are at the front, they are the driving force of the Church.”

Meanwhile, back in the Diocese of Amarillo, even though Bishop Zurek’s catechists were meeting only halfway across town for their annual gathering: His Excellency had his rector out of town; his reserved parking space empty; and even though September 7th was open on his schedule, our bishop was not present at the Diocesan Catechetical Event to be shown “Reverence“❓
