Isn’t St. Mary’s Cathedral our bishop’s house; therefore, can I not pray that our next bishop follows Jesus’s command to “not move about from one house to another”, and will “Just say no!” to living in the house that Bishop Zurek has built with the intention of closing the doors on a synodal Church that is “going forth” in the Diocese of Amarillo❓

“Besides promoting unity in the local Church, the Diocesan or Eparchial bishop, assisted by priests and deacons, is also responsible for relations with the other local Churches and the whole Church around the Bishop of Rome in a mutual exchange of gifts“; however, since the “whole Church around the Bishop of Rome” recognizes St. Mary’s, Amarillo, as the Cathedral, why does Bishop Zurek not have a presence there; indeed, “After the fire and demolition of the 1981 St. Mary’s Church, Bishop John Yanta re-read the parish’s history and then recognized the connection between Sacred Heart (Our diocese’s first Cathedral) and St. Mary’s”, but since he was close to retirement, and wanting to stay on “this path of synodality which God expects”, he passed on to his successor the canonical opinion that Rome would approve of St. Mary’s new church being a co-cathedral with St. Laurence; accordingly, wasn’t Bishop Yanta’s prayer based on on what is written in today’s office❓

“Re-establishing the traditional link between being a bishop and presiding over a local Church is important, restoring the correspondence between the communion of bishops (communio episcoporum) and the communion of Churches (communio Ecclesiarum).“; nonetheless, wasn’t it a sign that Bishop Zurek “Just Said No” to any “communion of bishops” or “Churches” between himself and Bishop Yanta” since he immediately went about dedicating all diocesan resources available to upgrading his bishop’s residence and building a new pastoral center at St. Laurence that lived up to his standards of “spiritual worldliness“; hence, didn’t his process, which was “imbued with clericalism”, move people in the Diocese of Amarillo to ask, “Why do you hound me as though you were divine, and insatiably prey upon me❓”
Nevertheless, St. Mary’s, with Monsignor Waldow as pastor, had become “synonymous” with “Synod” in that it had, “all the essential elements of what a Cathedral should be composed of: A large substantial church, the oldest functioning Catholic School in the Diocese with 220 boys and girls, a full and rich Faith Formation program for all ages, but most of all, for adults, a Catechumenate process structured according to The Forum, Youth Ministry and a free-standing youth center with Life Teen and EDGE, Liturgical music rich and full…an organ with 1200 pipes and trumpets valued at $900,000, traditional music as well as contemporary, 24/7 Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, outreach to the inner city and a true sense of responsibility for the poor and disadvantaged of the inner city, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the oldest Knights of Columbus Council in the diocese (Council 1450), Council of Catholic Women, Stephen Ministry, Charismatic Renewal, Lay Ecclesial Movements, RENEW, and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts” ; accordingly, didn’t Bishop Zurek ask Monsignor Waldow to move to St. Laurence as Rector as he thought to himself, “Here at my Cathedral ‘I believe that I shall see the good things of the Lord in the land of the living‘”❓
“Bishop Zurek, I’ve already built you a Cathedral!”

However Monsignor Waldow was close to retirement himself and “Just Said No” by saying, “Bishop Zurek, I’ve already built you a Cathedral!”; therefore, it was then that Bishop Zurek was moved to “mention the possibility that (St. Mary’s) could and should become the Cathedral”, and thus the synodal process to make that happen began; consequently, in regards to his, “spiritual worldliness“, wasn’t it a time for Bishop Zurek to realize that, “The Kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the Gospel“❓

“All of this shows the urgent need for us to move forward in a bold cultural revolution“;..
…therefore, “‘Every Christian, whether a layperson or member of the clergy, has a vital role to play in advancing the mission of the church through collaboration’, Pope Francis said.”…
…”‘We priests are not the bosses of the laity, but their pastors,’ he said in a video message for his October prayer intention: ‘For a shared mission”;…
…finally, although Bishop Zurek did move the Cathedra to St. Mary’s, does he not as Bishop move to the Cathedral only when it is required or suits his “spiritual worldliness“; furthermore, has he not used “the privilege of an exclusive position of power and separation” to do away with synodality once more by building our next bishop’s residence right next to his near our former cathedral; so, isn’t the best way I can help Bishop Zurek acknowledge and ask forgiveness for his ‘Sins against synodality; lack of listening, communion, and participation of all’ be to pray that our new bishop will have the courage to, “Just Say No!” to living in the house that Zurek has built, is building and will build if our next bishop does not follow Jesus’s command,…
